Handy tips
How do you attach an emblem to your kiel?
Attaching emblems to a carnival jacket seems simple but there are a few things that make the difference between an emblem that stays put all carnival long and one that ends up drifting around the pub halfway through the conga line.

Sewing is best
Most carnival experts agree: sewing holds the longest. Stitch just inside the hard edge of the emblem with a sturdy thread. Start well in advance it takes time.

Iron-on as alternative
Most emblems have an iron-on backing. Set the iron to 150-200°C (cotton setting), no steam, press firmly for 30 seconds. Always place a thin cloth over the emblem.

Always combine both
Iron-on and sewing together is the best combination. Iron-on alone won't last the whole carnival emblems get pulled off your jacket without you noticing.

Plan the layout first
Lay all emblems out on the kiel before sewing them on. Take a photo as a reference. Make sure the balance is right: don't cluster everything in one spot.
